Dave Matthews Guests on Kenny Chesney Album

September 21st, 2008

We saw Dave Matthews and Kenny Chesney together last year when Dave Matthews made a rather surprise appearance at a Kenny Chesney concert in Atlanta on September 7, 2007. Now Kenny Chesney's upcoming album “Lucky Old Sun” features a collaboration with Dave Matthews on the tune "I'm Alive," This song appears as the first track on the album.

Kenny Chesney was also added to the line up at Farm Aid along joining Farm Aid board members and perennial performers Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews for the annual benefit concert, which took place Sept. 20 in Mansfield, MA.

The first edition of “Lucky Old Sun” will be a deluxe package, including live versions of various Chesney songs. The deluxe edition, available Oct. 14, will give fans access to downloads from Chesney's Poets & Pirates Tour and a special video of "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven," featuring The Wailers. They will also have the opportunity to enter the "Kick It Off With Kenny" contest to win a trip to the opening of Chesney's 2009 tour. The music-only version of “Lucky Old Sun” will be released in stores on October 21.

"Lucky Old Sun is a really personal record," said Chesney. "It comes from some pretty deep places, and it looks at my life, how I've evolved and the way the ocean can take you places beyond location."

Saratoga Performing Arts Center Sees Return of Notables

June 24th, 2008

saratoga.jpgNight two at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (Saratoga Spa State Park) in Saratoga Springs, NY saw the return of a full  #40 played for the first time since September 8, 2007 which became an official release Live at Piedmont Park. It also brought back Shotgun, not played since October 2, 2007. Shotgun debuted just 2 years ago at the Post-Gazette Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, PA. Dave once again, sat down at the piano but this time, for the first time, it was to play A Dream So Real. The Road Crew reported that the audience sang so loudly during Jimi Thing that Dave let them do the verses on their own.

Dave Matthews Named as Vote for Change Co-Chair

 May 15,2008

vote%20for%20change.pngVote For Change is a program to get-out-the-vote in the general election and is part of a 50-state voter registration drive. Senator Barack Obama has announced the national co-chairs of Vote for Change. The fourteen co-chairs are government leaders, leaders in the labor movement, leaders in the arts, and in the faith community.  Their job is to oversee the program’s efforts and act as campaign representatives to boost participation in the election across the country.

Among the 14 National Co-Chairs is Dave Matthews. Early this year, in a letter addressed to his fans, Dave Matthews announced his endorsement of Barack Obama. Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds performed a free concert at Indiana University promoting Obama's campaign.  Over 17,000 students attended this concert.

These current political activities are not Dave Matthews' first public participation in politics. Dave Matthews Band played during the 2004 "Vote for Change" tour and in support of Sen. John Kerry with other artists including R.E.M. and Bruce Springsteen. In January of 1997, Dave Matthews Band also played at President Bill Clinton's Inaugural Ball.

Stefan Lessard’s Blog Renews Excitement Over Upcoming Album

February 26th, 2008map.jpg

It only took one short sentence from Stefan on his MySpace Blog to renew the excitement over Dave Matthew’s Band’s upcoming album.

“Tomorrow I drive to Denver, and then fly to C'ville in VA to do a little preproduction before heading out to Seattle to start our recording of our next record.” (Dated February 17, 2008)

No official updates have yet been released by DMB regarding their 7th studio album, but this bit of news confirms the earlier information regarding its timing. Stefan had mentioned in his Sirius interview back in November that the band had plans to go back to the studio in the spring.

It appears preproduction will take place in Charlottesville, Va and they will be in Seattle within the next few weeks for the actually recording. The release date could happen sometime this year.
