This website features up-to-date DMB news, a bi-weekly newsletter, forums, lyrics, mp3s, lossless audio, pictures, magazine scans, a full discography and so much more…

dontburnthepig.org is owned and maintained by Chris. We also have a handful of volunteers who contribute to the ongoing work involved in running this site.

Chris

My name is Chris. I have been a fan since 1994 and have never looked back. Words really can’t describe the emotions I feel when I listen to DMB, so I made a website in honor of them.

Been going to shows since 1998. How many you ask? I lost count. I decided to create this fan site, basically because I wanted a place to compile everything that is related to the Dave Matthews Band and share my fandom with other fans. Even with the numerous other fan sites, which I have enjoyed visiting over the years, I wanted to create a place to go that had multiple DMB resources.

It is a work in progress, but I hope you enjoy you stay here at dbtp.org and I hope to catch you all at a show sometime soon!

Cheers, Chris.

Libby

Hi! My name is Libby. I grew up in Guatemala, Central America and currently use my Spanish as a teacher in a 5th grade Spanish Immersion program. I am very active in my church and sing in the choir and worship teams. I love music! I am a Nascar fan and a hockey fan (Go Hershey Bears and Red Wings!)

I’m in my mid 40’s and a mom of two teenagers - daughter (almost 18) and a son who is 14. This past summer I married a wonderful man I met on a DMB fan site!! He is the very best!

I first got into DMB when a friend of mine at work shared some of Dave’s lyrics with me. I got totally hooked on reading his lyrics and analyzing them. Then I decided to listen and felt a whole new dimension to the words. I went to my first concert in June, 2005 and have been a die hard fan ever since! I've only had the chance to go to 7 concerts and the most recent was on my honeymoon! I'm an avid collector of concerts and have too many to count! (My husband is currently trying to catalog and organize them for me.)

I thoroughly enjoy being part of a DMB community and meeting fans from across the nation.

Julie

I'm from NW Indiana--but so far northwest you might as well call it Chicago!

I didn't always like DMB, in fact I use to claim to 'hate' the band.  But that was until I actually stopped to listen to it! Now I can't get enough of it.  I've never been one to like something just because 'everyone else is doing it'.  When DMB hit mainstream with 'CRASH', I wanted nothing to do with it.  Then some very persistent friends forced me to listen to disc
after disc until I became a closet fan.  But I'm out now!  And it's rare to have a conversation with me these days that doesn't lead to a DMB discussion!

I love to travel for shows!  Since I was able to start getting out to shows in 2004, I've been to Alpine, Deer Creek, Chicago, Cincinnati, New Jersey, and even AMSTERDAM!  I always wanted to do more, but couldn't find friends willing to travel with me.  But now, even that won't even stop me from getting where I want to go! If you see me out somewhere, be sure to stop and say 'Hi'!

I love helping out with DBTP, since I'm always browsing through anyway!  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to send me a PM.  I'll help you out the best I can!

Olindo

Howdy. Name is OLindo but ya'll can call me O. I'm from the Great White North we all like to call Canada but now call TN my home.

I listened to the band from time to time back in the 90's but it was not as bad as it is today. I was more into the Canadian scene as far as music goes. Once I got my hands on Lilywhites Sessions in 2001 I was hooked because the mood of the album reflected the time period so perfectly on what I was going through. I started going to shows in 2002 and I try to hit up at least one new venue per year. I have seen the band in TN, VA, GA, IL and IN.

My show collection is quite something I am proud of to have. I always try and help out with something someone may be looking for so that’s how I came to be part of this amazing site. If you need any shows or certain songs don’t be afraid to ask or you can check out the shows I do own in my signature and I will see what I can do help out. Looking forward to meeting some great fans this summer.

What's In a name?

Posted on Friday, January 4, 2008 by Registered Commenteradmin | Comments Off

The site name was selected simply because it is one of my favorite DMB songs and it is a unique name for a website. Actually, “Pig” is the song I consider my favorite, but “Don't Burn the Pig" is the name that always suck for me.

History of the song "Don't Burn The Pig"

Posted on Saturday, January 5, 2008 by Registered Commenteradmin | Comments Off

The very first time don’t burn the pig was played was at Yoshi’s in 1995. According to story intro's, Dave was supposedly inspired to write the song after watching a nature special in which native tribes burned live pigs to determine judgments. The last time it was played by the full band was on 8.31.96 where Dave briefly explains the song a bit.

“So when I was really small I saw this film of a, experiments on pigs to see how much you could burn them without killing them. So they had this little baby pig and about five grown men, and some of the grown men were holding the pigs, and some of them were burning the pigs. All the baby pig could do was scream. Don’t burn the pig.”

After that the song disappeared almost entirely with the exception of a few Dave and Tim appearances in 1997. It was not until 1998 during the Studio Sessions of "Before These Crowded Streets" where the song was majorly reworked into Pig. Although the phrase, "Don't Burn the Pig" was not included in the album version, it resurfaced in the song in 2001. When "Pig" returned to the setlists in 2002 and again in 2005, it was listed on the road page setlists as "Don't Burn the Pig" but every version has been the modern song.
