DMB Spring Tour Starts with 2 Diverse Vegas Shows
March 27th, 2007
The first stop in this year’s short “Spring” DMB tour started in Las Vegas this past weekend and will include 4 shows in Australia and finish in Europe.
DMB provided a mix of old and new songs as well as a few covers in the 2 night stand at the MGM Grand Arena. This is the first time DMB has been to Vegas since 2001, but the second time Dave Matthews has played at the MGM where he performed with Tim Reynolds at Vegoose in 2006.
Before performing “I’ll Back You Up” on Friday night, Dave described a time many years ago when he worked in bar where many musicians performed on a small stage in the window. He prepared a tape of songs he'd written and passed it on to Carter and LeRoi, alluding to the forming of the band. The tape included the song I'll Back You Up, which the band proceeded to play for the first time since 2004.
Coran Capshaw and the Growth of Musictoday
February 12th, 2007
Fast company magazine recently published an article about music’s secret money machine, better known as Musictoday , founded by Coran Capshaw.
Coran Capshaw is Dave Matthews Band's manager. Owner of Trax and Flood Zone, Capshaw founded a music management company called Red Light Management. Capshaw played a prominent role in the band's ascension to national and international fame and became the focus of media attention in the mid-1990s when legal scuffles over ownership of Dave Matthews’s songs hit the courts.
Capshaw is no longer an owner of Trax, and has since been torn down, but still maintains an ownership in many Charlottesville-based businesses. Among his more high profile business ventures, aside from Musictoday, Capshaw has a stake in:
DMB 2006: A Year In Review
December 30th, 2006
Another year has passed and yet again DMB has provided us with another memorable year.
2006 started off with much excitement as Dave & Friends set of to play the first ever Caribbean Cruise Getaway in the Bahamas. What was going to be a normal Dave & Friends show turned into an all night event, while Dave played a total of 40 songs in one night. Rain caused the show to end early and as a result Dave played two more shows on both the Sovereign and Majesty of the Seas. During these shows Dave debut a new song “Ayhee” as well as playing “Good Good Time” again, which had not been played since its debut in 2004.
At the end of February and again in May, Dave played a few solo shows in England. During these shows he debut songs “I won’t give it away” and “Sister”. The new song “Sister” which is about Dave’s Sister Jane would also go on to be played during the 2006 tour.
