Music for Action offers Free Bonnaroo Comp featuring DMB

musicforaction.org has teamed up with HeadCount and the NRDC Action Fund and are offering a FREE "Best of Bonnaroo" download compilation featuring Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Pearl Jam and Jack Johnson among others.

The 06.10.05 performance of "Rapunzel" was chosen for the compilation. To download this free comp, music for action is asking everyone to submit an original or pre-written email to your local senator.

In June, the House of Representatives passed legislation to cut global warming pollution, build a clean energy economy and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Now it is up to the Senate to pass a similar bill and more than a dozen Senators have yet to say how they will vote.

Dave Matthews to play "Music Saves Mountains" concert: May 19th

One day prior to the Dave & Tim Jane Goodall benefit in Washington DC, Dave Matthews is scheduled to perform at the Music Saves Mountains benefit concert in Nashville, TN, May 19th, 2010.

The Music Saves Mountains organization was created to raise awareness about mountaintop removal coal mining, which is devastating Appalachia.

The concert will take place at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Tickets will go on sale Friday, March 5th at 10am.

Along with Dave Matthews will be Emmylou Harris, and other special guests Patty Griffin, Buddy Miller, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, and more. Emmylou Harris has performed with Dave Matthews a number of times through the years and has guested on one of her albums.

An opera singers take on #41

There are some artists that have attempted to cover DMB's songs through the years, and when one genre trys to cover another, it could be brilliant or a train-wreck. There are plenty of examples of artists covering DMB. Willie Nelson on "Gravedigger", Kenny Chesney on "Where are you Going" and Stevie Nicks on "Crash into Me" to name a few. As DMB fans, whether you love or hate these covers, the artist plays to their ability and trys to interpret the song on a level that makes it their own, just as Dave Matthews Band has done with various covers that they have done. It comes as a rare occasion, and maybe a surprise that an opera singer would take on a DMB classic, but it is very refreshing to see.

Canadian Soprano Ashleigh Semkiw performed a cover of Dave Matthews Band "#41" while warming up during an opera recording session. This performance was recorded and posted via youtube just a few weeks ago...

Ashleigh has sung most recently in Operas with Lorin Maazel, was a young artist with Chicago Opera Theater and honored Sir Ian McKellan at the Harman center gala this past year in D.C.

So why does an opera singer cover a DMB song? What other reason is there than simply just being a fan, and Ashleigh is indeed a fan.

dbtp.org asked Ashleigh what her inspiration was behind choosing to sing "#41" and what her thoughts were on Dave Matthews Band, she replied:

"Not only is their music great, but they represent musicianship that is lacking in so much in the major performers that are popular today. DMB's music is accessible but layered, and their ability to execute and deliver outstanding performances - LIVE - is something that is really important to me as a musician. They are highly skilled musicians, and coming from the classical music world, you value these things. You realize the amount of practice and dedication it takes to play at their level, so from a very young age I was attracted to their sound because it was rich and intelligent and soulful."

Ashleigh expressed to dbtp.org, "Most of my performing is done in opera and classical performances, but I love to use what I know about music and apply it to other genres. And I love DMB's music."

She chose "#41" to warm up with during her studio session because while it is one of her favorite DMB songs (along with "Don't Drink The Water" and "The Stone"), she also loves singing other genres of music and felt that singing "#41" was a good way to warm up her voice in a way that isn't the traditional vocal "warm up" of scales and arpeggios.

Her voice is powerful and strong and truly takes this DMB classic to another level.

2010 Dave Matthews Band European Tour

Today kicks of the month long European Tour for Dave Matthews Band. They start their adventure in Hamburg, Germany and will wrap up the tour with rescheduled Stockholm, Sweden.

Dave Matthews Band to headline Bonnaroo

The artist lineup was announced yesterday for the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival scheduled for June 10-13th, 2010. Dave Matthews Band has been announced as one of the headliners for the festival.

Many artists are using various networking sites like myspace and twitter to announce their part in the festival as the full line-up is revealed on Bonnaroo's myspace page.

Dave Matthews Band announced that they would be joining the festival on their official webpage with 9 panel covered with curtains revealing a letter one at a time spelling Bonnaroo!

Other artists scheduled are The Flaming Lips (who will be covering Dark Side of the Moon), Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, King of Leon, Weezer and many, many more...

Tickets are now available for sale via bonnaroo's website.

Dave Matthews, Tim Reynolds and LeRoi Moore featured on new Sokoband album

Sokoband, originally known as Soko is scheduled to released a new album on March 9, 2010, featuring Dave Matthews, Steve Kimock, Tim Reynolds, David Darling, John D'Earth and many others. According to jambands.com report, "Some unreleased recordings by Dave Matthews Band late saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who helped the band release its first two albums, included on the album."

Soko is a jazz fusion duo, featuring pianist Michael Sokolowski and bassist Houston Ross. The group formed as a trio in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991, with Sokolowski, Ross, and drummer John Gilmore.

Dave, Tim and LeRoi were also featured on Soko's album, "In November Sunlight".

Dave Matthews Band is set to perform "You & Me" at the Grammys

After a couple days of rehearsals at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Dave Matthews Band have been preparing "You & Me" which they will be performing tonight at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. DMB will be accompanined by dozens of additional players, including singers, a string section, percussionists and eight horn players plucked from the Grammy in the Schools program, which will bring to life on a smaller scale what they did in the music video.

Dave Matthews says "There are no dancers, no stand-ins. We wanted everything live. There's such a freedom to that." "And it's a risk"

Dave Matthews Band have been nominated for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. Dave told EW, “I think this is the best record the band has ever made, so it’s icing,” he said. “It’s cherry to be here. But it’s not going to change how I feel about the record.”

While in Los Angeles, Dave Matthews attended the MusiCares event honoring Neil Young, whom he recently performed with at the Hope for Haiti Now telethon. Dave performed a cover of Neil's "The Needle and the Damage Done"

While at the Grammy rehearsals Dave took a moment to talk to CNN and shared his feeling on the Haiti disaster and their efforts to give back.

Dave Matthews Band 2010 Summer Tour Dates Announced

Dave Matthews Band kicks off their European tour on February 16th, and while European fans are getting their DMB fix, the 2010 Summer Tour dates for the U.S. have been announced and planning can begin!

DMB will be hitting many of their regular stops, with the addition of a few ball parks like Citi Field, Nationals Park and PNC Park!

In addtion, DMB will be performing for FREE in West Valley City, Utah on August 17, 2010. Warehouse members will be charged a $5.00 convenience fee plus an applicable shipping fee only. When confirming Warehouse members for tickets to the show, priority will be given to members who initially were confirmed for Warehouse tickets to the 2009 USANA DMB show (which was cancelled last year due to Dave's voice).

Warehouse can begin requesting tickets on January 28th and will end on February 8th. Be sure to check out the new ticketing guidelines.

Public sale for most venues via Live Nation/Ticketmaster begins on February 26th, 2010

Hope For Haiti Now Telethon Performances

Last night, "Hope for Haiti Now" took over many television networks for 2 hours and was loaded with celebrities and performances by Stevie Wonder, Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna to name a few.

The "Hope for Haiti Now" telethon was broadcasted in efforts to raise money for Haiti's earthquake relief fund.

Dave Matthews was the second to last performer and to our surprise he shared the stage with Neil Young. The duo performed a cover of "Alone and Forsaken", a song by Hank Williams.

A "Hope for Haiti Now" album of all the performances is available for pre-order on iTunes (iTunes.com/Haiti) for $7.99, while the full two-hour video telecast can be downloaded for $1.99. The individual performances will be available in audio as well for 99 cents each.
